The Blurb:
A terrified woman erases her past to escape her abusive husband. Taking her children, she disappears from Texas only to reinvent herself as a teacher in a remote Alaskan village. She fights to survive the harsh environment, while ever mindful of the danger stalking her.
A complication emerges in the form of her new boss who is unaware of her entanglement and pursues her with a passion, but she is haunted by the cruel man who battered her. Can a good man heal her scars and gain her trust?

The Set-Up:
Brett, Rene's new boss has picked her and the children up at the airport and driven them to the cabin where they will be living. When she expresses some concerns, he tells her that she doesn't have to stay.

The 8 Sentence Excerpt:

“No,” Rene said. “I’m not planning to let you down. I’m just trying to get acquainted with---with things.”

“I’ll leave you to get settled in, then,” he said. “Tomorrow we’ll sign that contract, if you’re still interested.”

Rene stood with her mouth open. As she stared after his retreating form, a hundred possible retorts came to mind. She heard him slam the door of the Hummer and start the motor. Walking out onto the porch, she raised her hand in a silent salute. Though he drove away unhearing, she yelled after him, “I’ll still be interested, Mr. Brett LeCroix, because we have no place else to go.”

It's spring and everything is blooming. Time for new growth. For me, I was challenged to grow and try something new, so instead of my usual full length novel, I wrote a shortie. GIRL'S NIGHT, is a short delicious murder spree.
Can 5 women share a deep, dark secret without exploding? What's a little murder between friends?
When one of Lindsey Cooper's 'book club' pals shares a disturbing secret, it kick-starts a series of events that changes all of their lives forever.
A light and lively adventure that transforms an unassertive soccer mom into a force to be reckoned with.

I'm giving away a download of GIRL'S NIGHT to 3 readers who leave a comment below. Answer this question> What would you be willing to do for your best friends?
Here's the easiest ever recipe for Rice Pudding.
1 quart skim milk
1/3 cup (heaping) rice
6-8 Tbsp. granulated sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract

1/3 cup raisins or dried cranberries (optional)
Dash of salt

Cook uncovered and simmer for 40 minutes. Pour it into a container, cover and let sit at room temperature for a couple of hours. Sprinkle with cinnamon to taste. This thickens as it sits. Serve immediately.

<![CDATA[HALLOWEEN BLOG HOP!]]>Thu, 16 Oct 2014 15:02:23 GMThttp://www.jdfaver.com/blog/halloween-blog-hop
Welcome to my blog. Make yourself comfortable. I'd like to tell you about the latest in my Edge of Texas series of romantic thrillers set on the Gulf Coast just above the border with Mexico.
In BAD DREAMS, Rafael buys Chloe her dream house...a Victorian in need of some love. In fact, it needs more than that. While Rafael, the sheriff, is trying to catch a home invasion gang, Chloe tries to rid their house of ghosts who have inhabited the place for decades.
I'm giving away two downloadable copies of BAD DREAMS just for leaving a comment below. Be sure to leave your email address so I can contact the two lucky winners. Just tell me your favorite thing about Halloween. My personal favorite is all the leftover chocolate after the Trick-or-Treat experience. Yes, I buy a WHOLE LOT of chocolate. Don't want to be caught short, do I? <grin>

Here's the blurb for BAD DREAMS:
When Chloe falls in love with an old Victorian, she convinces Rafael to buy her dream house. She envisions their children playing on the extensive grounds and harvesting fruit from the long-neglected citrus orchard. Undisturbed for decades, ghosts begin speaking to her. Now, with renovations underway, the house begins to divulge its secrets. Who knows where the bodies are buried?
Meanwhile, Rafael and his deputies are busy trying to protect the community from a ruthless home invasion gang. The lower Texas coast is at risk on more than one plane, as the robbers target area citizens and tortured spirits are torturing the ones he loves.
Rock-solid and down to earth, Rafael is hard-pressed to accept the whole ghost thing, much less the measures Chloe takes to combat the spirits, but she goes into full battle mode, enlisting the assistance of a curandera (Mexican healer) to help her vanquish supernatural evil and release her young daughter from their possession.

<![CDATA[My Sexy Saturday~Bad Girl!]]>Sat, 30 Aug 2014 04:22:35 GMThttp://www.jdfaver.com/blog/my-sexy-saturdaybad-girl
The following if from my very sexy dominatrix murder mystery, BAD GIRL! Unknown to her, the client is a very stressed homicide detective.

“Now, stand up. Take off your clothes for me and try to be entertaining.” She sat down in the over-sized black leather chair, as though telling a man to strip for her was a common occurrence.
Confused, he stood with his hands spread in a helpless gesture. “You mean, like, dance or something?”
“Yes...or something. Be inventive. I prefer that my slave be creative.” She stretched out her long legs, crossing them demurely at the ankles.
    “I need music.”
    “By all means.”
He picked up the remote to his sound system. B.B. King’s guitar strings twanged out a bluesy ballad with a strong beat. He began moving to the music.
Slipping the knot loose from his tie, he enjoyed a fleeting fantasy of tying her up with it, exploring her body with his tongue and finding the means to break through her icy facade. He blinked to clear his head and danced with the tie before tossing it to her. He tried to concentrate on unbuttoning his cuffs, followed by his shirtfront.
“Not too fast,” she admonished. “Tease me.”
"Yes, Mistress.” He slid the shirt down one shoulder far enough to expose one of his well-muscled pecs.
Her gaze swept over his torso, for the first time giving out a hint of interest. “Ooh, nice. You’ve been working out.”
“I have a tough job,” he said. “Lots of stress.” He exposed his other shoulder and then let the shirt fall to the floor.
“The thrill is gone,” B.B. rasped to the music.
“Don’t you believe it,” he growled as he unbuckled his belt and unzipped his pants.
“Show me the merchandise, slave.” Her eyes were half-closed as though she shuttered herself from his scrutiny.

<![CDATA[My Sexy Saturday]]>Sat, 28 Jun 2014 04:03:16 GMThttp://www.jdfaver.com/blog/my-sexy-saturday1Welcome to My Sexy Saturday!
Today I'm featuring my very hot romantic suspense series set on the Texas coast close to the boarder with Mexico. There are 5 books in The Edge of Texas series so far, with more on the way. I'm going to give an e-book (winner;s choice) from this series to a lucky reader who leaves a comment below with their email attached so I can contact the winner. I included a sexy sample from BAD DREAMS below. I'm looking forward to your comments.
Excerpt from BAD DREAMS:

Red and blue lights flashed in her rear view mirror. She smiled and pulled into the driveway, unbuttoning the top two buttons on her knit shirt before she turned the motor off. Come and get me, big boy.
The patrol car pulled in behind her.
A tall, uniformed man with broad-shoulders and dark hair got out and strolled over to stand beside her car. He leaned down to peer into the vehicle and knocked on the driver’s window.
She opened the window and gazed up at him.
“What seems to be the problem, Officer?”
“Lady, do you know how fast you were driving?”
She shook her head. “Why, no sir. I had no idea I was speeding.”
“Is that the story you’re going with?”
She flashed a wide grin. “Yeah, I’m sticking with that one.”
“Please step out of the vehicle.” He moved back and allowed her to climb out.
She swept him with her blue-eyed gaze as she came to stand in front of him, tugging the legs of her shorts down.
“Are you carrying any weapons?” His gaze traveled down her body.
    “Why, no, I’m completely defenseless.”
He snorted. “I’ll be the judge of that. Put your hands on the hood and spread your legs.”
“Like this?” She leaned onto her arms and arched her back, sticking her rear out.
He reached under her knit shirt to cup her breasts, caressing them through the lacy sheerness of her bra. He tweaked her nipples between his thumb and forefinger. “Aha! Just as I suspected. Carrying concealed weapons.” He caressed her breasts and stepped closer to kiss the side of her neck.
She felt the heat from his muscled body pressed against the back of her thighs.

Welcome to my stop on the Authors in Bloom Blog Hop. There are so many prizes to be won. I'm offering a free download of The Reluctant Rancher (Western Romantic Suspense) plus A Texan in the Kitchen, my cookbook, chock-full of Texas Family recipes.
Here is my gardening tip for those who will be planting a vegetable garden. After you have planted your seedlings, use a couple of sheets of newspaper around the plants and between rows. The newspaper will keep weeds down and act as a moisture barrier to keep the plants moist longer. After arranging the newspaper, overlapping and tucking close to the plantings, water thoroughly and add a layer of compost or other mulch. The paper will degrade over time and improve the density of your soil.
Check out Badlands, my western romantic series. First is THE DOCTOR'S CHOICE followed by THE RELUCTANT RANCHER. The Dark Horse, third in the trilogy, will be released in the fall.
Be sure to leave a comment to be entered in the drawing for my prizes as well as the grand prize e-reader and gift card. You must leave your email address with your comment so you can be notified if you win any or all of the prizes. Please follow me on Twitter @JDFaver_Author and visit my Facebook page at>
